Modus can be defined as a method or a specific unit of measurement. The Modus Grid Paintings are made with a system of modular units that can be infinitely arranged at any scale. Although abstract, these paintings depict the world in terms of mathematical relationships. In their essence, the paintings evoke the natural world. Within these compositions, themes of symmetry, harmony, and unity are revealed.

Color is always at play and brushes are the preferred instrument. Whether it is a work on paper, or oil on primed canvas, the discipline is a fusion of painting and drawing. There is a rigorous devotion to process and materials. Oil paint is favored for its lustre, versatility, and saturation, while water-based media is used for works on paper. The brush is a sensitive implement - like a seismograph, it records every hesitation and tremble of the body. Because the brush tells the truth, every mark requires acceptance.

Abstraction is a philosophical pursuit apt for exploring the timeless qualities of the universe. By combining mathematics with the indelible mark of an individual, the aim is to produce artwork that can be understood far into the future and beyond the culture in which it was created.
